Tue, 20 December 2011Wearing a life jacket could save your life but it will only save your life if you are wearing it.
We could go on and on about marine safety and safety at sea but for more information regarding life jacket safety visit the RNLI's fantastic website and read about their life jacket campaign "Useless Unless Worn"
- Providing it is correctly worn, regularly serviced and well maintained a life jacket is a vital piece of life saving safety equipment.
- If fitted correctly, a life jacket can turn an unconscious body face up
- If worn, a lifejacket will increase your survival times and therefore increase the chances of being found safe and well during a search and rescue situation.
- Spend time adjusting your life jacket's waistbelt; Adjust the belt so that you can place your fist between the buckle and yourself with no other gaps. If the gap is too big the lifejacket will be loose when in the water; if the gap is too small the life jacket can be uncomfortable and will certainly become even more uncomfortable on inflation.
- Investigate on the optional extras that can be fitted to your life jacket; spray hoods andlights are all important, crotch straps and whistles are vital should the worst happen and you fall over board.
